I've long been of the mind that hip-hop has not been exploited as a political vehicle nearly enough. By and large, the top hip-hop acts in the country are smart, savvy and incredibly influential. Guys like Nas, Mos, Jay-Z, the Roots, Common, Lupe, even Kanye, etc., have deep connections to political causes and philosophies -- but you rarely see any major politician grabbing ahold of that power. And, no, Vote or Die doesn't count....and is wicked lame.
That said, check out this sweet Fox News dis track Nas put together. I love it.
I like it a lot more than Nas' "Black President" he put out. It seemed a little, um, predictable. I expected more.
Keeping an eye on the rhetorical flourishes, the baits-and-switches and the bald-faced lies of politicians and the nation's ever-expanding chattering class
